Navathome Online Courses

To enable access to your online course we need to share some of your personal data with Navathome via www.navathome.com. This training website and database is held and maintained on a secure server. Navathome is an RYA training centre which specialises in online navigation training and will not use your personal information for any reason other than enabling your course. RYA Professional Practices and Responsibilities (Online Course)

A compulsory online course for RYA Commercial Endorsement holders. The course is broken down into four online modules and we estimate users will take around 6 to 8 hours to complete. The graded end of course assessment is split into two sections, totaling 2 ½ hours. All new applicants for a commercially endorsed RYA Certificate of Competence must first pass the PPR course. Anyone renewing a commercially endorsed RYA Certificate of Competence must pass the PPR course prior to their next renewal date, if they havent already done so.

Marine Radio (SRC) (Online Course)

The RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required to operate marine VHF radio equipment on a UK flagged vessel. This includes both fixed and handheld equipment with and without Digital Selective Calling (DSC). It is obtained by successfully completing an SRC exam conducted at an RYA Recognised Training Centre. There is no age limit for taking the SRC training course but exam candidates must be 16 years old on the day of the exam. The exam is a combination of a written theory test and practical assessment in the use of Marine VHF DSC radios. Please note that there is an additional fee which must be paid directly to the RYA for the exam.

RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship Course (Online Course)

The Essential Navigation and Seamanship Course is an inspiring online navigation course for anyone interested in sailing, motor boating, sea angling or diving – or pretty much anything else on the water! This online course will give you the essential knowledge needed when you’re afloat, from navigation to safety and seamanship to passage planning. RYA Interactive courses can be taken anytime, anywhere and at your own speed. All you need is a computer and the internet. The course should take 6 - 10 hours to complete.

RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore (Online Course)

This online theory course is delivered by Navathome, an RYA recognised training centre specialising in online training. Taking the course online allows you to complete the course at your own pace, and in your own home. You will be fully supported by qualified instructors who will be able to assist and clarify if you have any questions. Advanced training for more experienced skippers building on the Day Skipper course. This course equips you to navigate safely on coastal and offshore passages. This course will take your theory knowledge to the standard required for the Yachtmaster™ Coastal and Yachtmaster™ Offshore practical exams, concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology skills. The course content includes position fixing, course shaping and plotting, tidal theory, use of almanacs, electronic position finding equipment, interpreting weather forecasts, plotting weather systems, weather predictions, collision regulations, customs and excise regulations for cruising abroad. The course duration is approximately 60 hours. You have six months to complete the course, and this can be extended for an additional admin fee.

RYA Yachtmaster Ocean (Online Course)

This online theory course is delivered by Navathome, an RYA recognised training centre specialising in online training. Unravel the mysteries of astro navigation, using a sextant, ocean passage making, worldwide meteorology and electronic navigation aids. This online course is for those aspiring to blue water cruising and is ideal for holders of the Yachtmaster Offshore certificate who are preparing for their first ocean passage. The study time for this course is usually around 50 hours, although you get access to the course for six months and there is an admin fee to extend this period. During this period you get professional help if required from a fully qualified RYA Yachtmaster Instructor. If you wish to take the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean oral exam, the RYA require the end of course theory assessment to be invigilated by an RYA Instructor at an RYA recognised Training Centre. Alternatively, the candidate can opt to take an extra paper during the oral exam. If you wish to take an invigilated assessment at the end of the theory course rather than take an extra paper during the oral exam please let us know in advance and we can arrange for you to take the assessment at one of our participating centres. There will be a fee for the invigilation which is at the discretion of the chosen RYA recognised Training Centre.

RYA Day Skipper Course (Online Course)

This online theory course is delivered by Navathome, an RYA recognised training centre specialising in online training. Taking the course online allows you to complete the course at your own pace, and in your own home. You will be fully supported by qualified instructors who will be able to assist and clarify if you have any questions. This is a comprehensive course for those looking to develop their theoretical skills and begin working towards skippering a vessel. It equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day, and a basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night cruising. The RYA are continually updating the course content to take into account developments in technology and the electronic navigation aids now available on most cruising boats. The course covers the basics of seamanship, the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage, chartwork, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations. construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat, emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and liferafts. Course duration is approximately 40-45 hours. You have six months to complete the course, and this can be extended for an additional admin fee. There are two exams assessing general knowledge and chartwork.

RYA Fastrack To Coastal / Yachtmaster Theory (Online Course)

This online theory course is delivered by Navathome, an RYA recognised training centre specialising in online training. Other providers of Fastrack courses just lump together a day skipper course and a coastal. We have taken away all the duplication so you are not covering the same subjects twice. This makes for a faster and more efficient course. This course has been compiled for those with some theory and practical knowledge but no formal tuition. Although it can be completed by a novice without any previous experience, it is not advised. The Day Skipper revision section of the course is self test and the time to complete it depends on your current level of knowledge. The Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore section of the course takes approximately 60 hours with a long assessment of 3 parts which can be taken in one sitting or as 3 separate papers.
